Shipwreck

Completely dismantled and rebuilt from the ground upwards

The Hispaniola Bound for Treasure Island

When the bar was opened in 1997 the outside seating area consisted of wooden boards on top of scaffolding enclosed by green plastic netting. The seating was plastic tables and chairs. In wintertime the entire structure was dismantled and stored in the bar. At this time the bar only operated between Easter and October. When Paul took over the ownership a local joiner built the first replica of a pirate ship. The decking had, at that time, its own bar serving draught and bottled  beer. The plastic chairs and tables where replaced by wooden benches and tables. In the summertime an awning could be raised to protect people from the midday sun. Eventually time took its toll and is was time to pension the old boat off. The Hispaniola was completely rebuilt in the winter of 2013 by a team of four people, all complete amateurs! They worked through snow, hail, fog, rain and freezing temperatures in order to get it completed by Easter. they succeeded!. The team consisted of Terry Barrs (who also designed the Hispaniola, with input from others!) John Hamilton (our handyman), Kevin Laywood  and ‘nudge’ Stratford (materials). Built in memory of Gillian Hibbert-Greaves who gave us the inspiration. The Hispaniola was christened by Mike Green QFSM the then Parish Clerk. Much to our consternation a bottle of Tattinger champagne was broken over the front for luck! The seating is made from recycled plastic using such items as old CDs

please note that -

the hispaniola is registered as licensed premises and subject to the 2003 licensing act. Part of that act states that children under 16 years are not allowed on these premises unless accompanied by a responsible adult over the age of 18.

The First Hispaniola

Now rebuilt and even had its own outside bar. Had a limited capacity and soon

 had to be rebuilt.

Sit on the deck and imagine you are on a cruise to the Spanish main! Enjoy a fine pint of best ale and soak up the sun. Keep an eye on the kids, whilst you relax, as they play on the biggest children’s play area ever  -THE BEACH
